Prairie Fire & Girls on the Run Partnership

Wichita Sports Commission and Girls on the Run announce partnership for two of their biggest events

Wichita Sports Commission and Girls on the Run Girls on the Run will run its Spring 5k during the Prairie Fire Spring Race and will run its GOTR Fall 5k during the 49th Annual Honeysuckle White Wichita Turkey Trot. This just announced new partnership will span multiple years.

Kevin Jenks, President/CEO of Wichita Sports Commission, stated “We couldn’t be more pleased to strengthen our relationship with Girls on the Run. We worked together three years ago and now coming back together with a plan and forward collaboration gives us the ability to help elevate both races at the same time. Girls on the Run has such an amazing purpose in our community. It’s an honor to support their mission.”

The Spring Prairie Fire race will take place on Sunday, May 5th, 2024. The race will have a Half-Marathon, 5k Run, Friendly 5k and now the GOTR Spring 5k. The start/finish line will be located at Century II Plaza on the North side of Century II at 225 W. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67202. The 48th Annual Honeysuckle White Wichita Turkey Trot will be held on November 23, 2024 and will host a 10-mile, 2-mile and Tiny Trot on race day in addition to the GOTR Fall 5k.

Girls on the Run Heart of Kansas Council Director, Christy Thomas said, “Girls on the Run Hear of Kansas is excited for this partnership! It will help us grow our program to more girls across South Central Kansas and give our girls a one-of-a-kind race experience.” 2024 is the 12th year of the Prairie Fire Spring Race featuring both a half-marathon and a 5k run. The Prairie Fire Spring Race is part of the Prairie Fire Race Series presented by Davis-Moore. “We’re excited about the partnership between Girls on the Run and the Wichita Sports Commission. Girls on the Run plays a crucial role in empowering girls during a pivotal stage, boosting their confidence. I believe this collaboration will not only continue to provide support during this stage, but also for many years to come, with the girls actively participating in these community focused events,” stated Renee Encerti – Marketing Director, Davis-Moore Automotive Group.
